The Armenian is now wandering all over the world – just as it was before and after 1915 – and Armenia has had more losses than achievements during its 19-year-long independence, Garnik Margaryan, Chairman of the Homeland and Honor Party (which forms part of the opposition Armenian National Congress), told NEWS.am. Armenia is a de jure independent state, which is a most important factor for Armenian nationhood. “However, de jure independent Armenia is suffering de factor losses,” he said. All the spheres –economy, science, education and demography – are sustaining losses. Socio-economic problems caused mass emigration from the country. “To earn his bread the father of the family has to leave independent Armenia,” Margaryan said.

Although, according to the official data, Armenia’s population is about 3m people, Margaryan is skeptical about the figures. He believes the country’s population is within 1.5m people. “The Armenian is wandering all over the world – just as it was before and after 1915 – and it is terrible,” Margaryan said. He said that national security is in danger now, which is actually done at the state level.

As regards achievements, Margaryan pointed out Armenia is a sovereign state dealing with other in this status. “The most remarkable achievement was, of course, liberation of Artsakh – due to great sacrifices,” he said. Margaryan added this achievement is now in danger, as it is on the international community’s “gaming table.”
