U.S. President Barack Obama will meet with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev in New York, Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications Ben Rhodes told a briefing.

On Wednesday Obama will leave for New York to participate in the UN summit dedicated to Millennium Development Goals. On Thursday he will address the U.N. General Assembly and intends to touch upon the efforts to restart the global economy, to combat al Qaeda, to advance the cause of nonproliferation, and to pursue Middle East peace, the White House website reported.

“Friday, the President has a couple of bilats and a couple of multilateral meetings as well.  In the morning, he’ll be meeting with the President of Azerbaijan, who’s been a critical partner with the United States on a range of issues, including our efforts in Afghanistan,” Rhodes said.

The U.S. President also plans to meet the Chinese and Japanese Prime Ministers, the President of Kyrgyzstan, as well as the President of Columbia and the ASEAN leaders.
