On September 21, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian paid a visit to New York. Nalbandian delivered a speech at the UN Summit, dedicated to the implementation of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the UN head-quarters in New York. In his speech The Minister presented the progress and steps to be taken in this direction.

Referring to the security issues in the South Caucasus, Nalbandian said: “Proliferation of arms continues to pose a threat not only to the regional peace and stability, but also to economic and social development. Unfortunately, such threats still exist in our region,” the RA Foreign Office press service informed NEWS.am.

"Azerbaijan persists setting aside the proposals to come to consent on the non-use of force or threats. This conflicts with the principles of the United Nations, the founders of which united to prevent the future generations from scourge of war. Today we witness the Azerbaijan’s belligerence, increase of a military budget, warlike statements and provocations.

If we speak of the progress in implementing Millennium Development Goals and share our concerns over their accomplishments, there are nations which slipped world community’s attention. The nation of Nagorno-Karabakh does its utmost to create more favorable living conditions and ensure protection of human rights. The Karabakh people do this without international support, but expect assistance programs. If we fail to eliminate harm caused to innocent people due to inactivity, we cannot say all the Millennium Development Goals have been implemented and ensured equality and justice worldwide.

The Armenian FM also met with the UN leaders, his counterparts from different countries, as well as the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs in New York.

On September 25, Edward Nalbandian will deliver a speech at the 65th session of the UN General Assembly. Next day, he will depart for Boston to meet representatives of the Armenian community.   He is expected to make a speech at Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.
