Naira Zohrabyan, Chairwoman of the Standing Commission for European Integration, RA Parliament, held a meeting September 22 with Dutch Ambassador to Armenia Pieter Jan Langenberg and with Special Representative for Eastern Partnership and Eastern Neighborhood, Dutch foreign office, Onnoa Hatingo van Sen.

The sides discussed issues related to Armenia’s European integration. At the guests’ request, Zohrabyan also touched on the negotiations for a comprehensive agreement on free trade between Armenia and the EU. She informed the guests that a special interagency commission is conducting negotiations for the agreement.

The sides also discussed Armenian-Turkish relations and the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process. Zohrabyan reaffirmed Armenia’s willingness to establish normal relations with Turkey without any preconditions. She assured the guests that the Armenian Parliament will resume the ratification of the Armenian-Turkish protocols as soon as Turkey gets a political establishment ready to reopen the border.

Referring to the World Court verdict on Kosovo, Zohrabyan stressed that declaration of independence does not run counter to international legal norms. She reminded the guests that the Nagorno-Karabakh people declared its independence in conformity with international law. The World Court verdict proved the declaration of Nagorno-Karabakh’s independence was legally right. So the international community must recognize Nagorno-Karabakh’s independence, she said.
