No matter how many fine words Ilham Aliev says, they butter no parsnips, Gagik Melikyan, an MP of the Republic Party of Armenia (RPA), told NEWS.am, commenting on Azeri President Ilham Aliev’s speech at the 65th session of the U.N. General Assembly.

“Aliev is wasting time while he speaks of Nagorno-Karabakh from different platforms. Nagorno-Karabakh will never be part of Azerbaijan any more. The sooner Aliev understand this the better for him,” Melikyan said. As regards Aliev’s regular statements on the territories of Azerbaijan allegedly occupied by the Armenian side and on the need for their return, the Azeri leader must remember the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. “Let Baku think of returning them to the Armenian side,” Melikyan said.

Commenting on the Azeri President’s statement at the U.N. General Assembly that the international community is supportive of Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Melikyan pointed out that Baku has obviously “got mixed in its own views and statements.” “Just a month ago, when the protocol on longer-term presence of the Russian military base in Armenia was signed, high-ranking Azeri officials, particularly, Novruz Mammadov, accused Russia, the USA and the international community of their biased support of the Armenian side in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” Melikyan said. He advises President Aliev to pay more attention to domestic problems instead of making vain tours of distant countries and making empty statements.

In his speech at the 65th session of the U.N. General Assembly, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliev stressed that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be resolved within Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. He accused the Armenian side of occupying Azerbaijani territories and destroying cultural monuments. He thanked the international community for supporting Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
