On August 28, 2009 Russian PM Vladimir Putin’s aircraft IL-76 had an accident in Lech Walesa airport, Gdansk (Poland). It bumped into pole while landing and damaged the left wing.

Local media reports, Putin was not on board of government aircraft. A staff preparing Putin’s impending visit details, as well as drivers and agents of Special Services were aboard.

The accident causes are not clarified yet.

Vladimir Putin’s visit to Poland is scheduled September 1, 2009. Russian Premier will participate in the events dedicated to 70th anniversary of the Second World War.
