Armenian diplomacy is not ready for an effective settlement of the Armenia-Turkey rapprochement issue, Larisa Alaverdyan Secretary of the Heritage parliamentary faction, told NEWS.am. She pointed out the need for an adequate approach and activity.

“At present, Armenia has no foreign policy. It is substituted by relations at various levels, which do not allow Armenia to hold a position which would fully meet its interests,” Alaverdyan said. Evidence thereof is the very Armenia-Turkey rapprochement process.

“The process was launched through Switzerland’s mediation, under a scenario we are not the authors of, which initially proposed wrong diplomatic approaches and was not at all a timely one,” Alaverdyan said.

The present text of the Armenian-Turkish protocols submitted to the Armenian Parliament is not in Armenia’s interests or those of the region. “Turks not only seek to finally fix the modern illegal border by means of this process, but they also want us to yield Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijan. Discontent with the present, they are making far-reaching plans,” Alaverdyan said. “Do you know what is the difference between Armenia and Turkey? Turkey is planning its policy for the next 100 years, whereas Armenia, until the next international event takes place,” she said.

“They want to convince us things are in a bad way for us. The mechanism of psychological pressure on small peoples sometimes proves effective. But I state that the present-day geopolitical trends enable small peoples to gain a foothold and turn into influential geopolitical and regional factors. Each people, each country has its specific feature it can present to the world to its advantage. The only thing is to be able to do it,” Alaverdyan said.
