European Court of Human Rights sustained a claim by five Kurdish dailies against the Republic of Turkey – Erdala Olmez and Ali Turgaya. The claims were filed in 2008 and 2009 in connection with closure of the mentioned newspapers.

According to Firat news agency, European Court verdict says that Turkey violated article 10of right to freedom of speech. Under the judgment by the European Court, Turkey must pay 4800 € compensation to the owners of Kurdish media outlets.
