United States are concerned over the deteriorating situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and hope to find a formula for the conflict resolution, which will be acceptable for both conflicting parties, U.S. envoy in OSCE Ian Kelly stated in Brussels.
“I have to say that we are very concerned over frequent armed incidents along the line of contact with those tragic events when people were killed . This is an alarming situation”, said the U.S. official said, UKRINFORM reports.
He recalled that the OSCE plays a role in solving the Karabakh conflict. International mediators are very active within the Minsk Group and are constantly present in this region, have strong ties with the political leadership of Armenia and Azerbaijan, trying to maintain a dialogue between Yerevan and Baku.
“The most important thing is the parties continue to talk to each other to provide the diplomatic process”, Kelly stressed.
As to whether it is time to seek new solutions to the conflict, particularly in the context of the deterioration of the situation this summer, Kelly said he hoped that the next OSCE summit, to be held in Astana on December 1-2, will provide new opportunities.
“We consider these summits as an opportunity to resume high-level dialogue between Yerevan and Baku. We hope that both sides will come to the summit in Astana. We would like to see both sides to be committed themselves to observe certain and clear principles, which will lead to negotiation process and settlement. We can invite the parties to agree at least on a “road map” for resolving the conflict. That`s what we hope for,” Kelly emphasized.
