Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Ertuğrul Günay expects the Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturica to apologize. Kusturica called Minister Günay “an enemy.”

The Turkey-based NTV channel reports that the Turkish Minister, who boycotted the Altın Portakal (Golden Orange) International Film Festival because of Kusturica as a jury member, advised the Serbian producer to get an accurate translation of his (Günay’s) statement and apologize to him.

The Turkish Minister protested not only against being called “an enemy” by Kusturica, but also against the accusations of Armenian Genocide the Serbian filmmaker brought against Turkey. “I think my words were misinterpreted, and he was told quite different things. Let him demand an accurate translation, read it and apologize to me,” Minister Günay said.

The Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturica, who had been invited to Altın Portakal (Golden Orange) International Film Festival as a jury member, was enraged by the statements addressed to him by Turkish art critics and politicians.

Before leaving, the filmmaker held a press conference and severely criticized Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Ertuğrul Günay, who refused to attend the festival because of the Serbian filmmaker being on jury. In response, Kusturica said he considers the Turkish minister “an enemy” because of his behavior.
