Renowned senator, politician Edward M. Kennedy was a friend of Armenians and throughout the decades made unforgettable contributions to the initiatives for Armenia and its nation, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s message on American Senator’s death reads, Presidential Press Service reported.

“It is with deepest regret that I learnt of the American statesman, Senator Edward Kennedy’s death. His efforts in recognizing Armenian Genocide, assistance in liberation of Artsakh, rendering humanitarian aid to Armenians after the earthquake (1988) and military involvement are indisputable”, the message goes on.

“His memory will always dwell with all Armenians. Please, accept deepest condolences on behalf of myself and whole Armenian nation to Edward Kennedy’s family, Government and American people”, message concludes.

The book of condolences was available at the U.S. Embassy in Armenia for people to express their condolences.

Arpi Vartanian, Country Director for Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh of Armenian Assembly of America (AAA) told NEWS.am that Kennedy was a good friend of U.S. Armenian community. He always supported bills on recognition of Armenian Genocide and other pro-Armenian initiatives.

Senator Kennedy was a major figure of the U.S. Senate for 46 years. President Obama noted on his passing that, “For five decades, virtually every major piece of legislation to advance the civil rights, health and economic well being of the American people bore his name and resulted from his efforts.”

August 31, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the book of condolences due to death of Senator Edward M. Kennedy will be available to public at the U.S. Embassy in Armenia.

Senator Edward M. Kennedy, brother of President John F. Kennedy and Senator Robert F. Kennedy, died on August 25, 2009 at the age of 77.
