At the moment the recognition of NKR independence by Armenia is not a correct step, MP from Republican parliamentary group (RPA) Mkrtich Minasyan told NEWS.am, commenting on Azerbaijani mass media’s response on RPA statement that the party votes against the bill on NKR recognition, initiated by Heritage party.
"We realize today the OSCE Minsk Group undertook the mission on the peaceful settlement of Karabakh conflict. Such a step by the Armenia side may hinder the Minsk Group, we do not wish it,” Minasyan stressed.
According to him, hardly anyone in Armenia will object to recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh.
“We told the Heritage members not to raise the issue at the moment. We may take such a step in a year or two years. The negotiation process may yield results and there will be no necessity for it, Minasyan said.
As to whether there is another proposal from Heritage parliamentary faction to reach a certain compromise and not to put the bill to vote, the parliamentarian said he is not informed of it.
As NEWS.am reported previously, the Heritage party’s decision to postpone the vote of the bill for 15 days was conditioned by request of Parliament Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan and the head of ruling Republican Party faction Galust Sahakyan. Parliamentarians appealed to Heritage leader Raffi Hovannisian requesting to postpone the vote and promised to find a solution.
Parliamentary majority considers bill proposed by the Heritage party premature. ARF Dashnaktsutyun is the only party that stated it would vote for the document. ARFD’s leader Vahan Hovhannisyan stressed that nation-wide discussion should be held on the bill.
