The content of the issued Protocols fully reflects demand on borders’ recognition, stipulated by international treaties and partially “freezing” of the process on international recognition of Armenian Genocide. September 1, Masis Mayilyan Former Deputy Foreign Minister of NKR told NEWS.am, commenting on the Armenian-Turkish relations’ establishment and development Protocols.

According to Mayilyan, setting up a sub-commission on historical issues, Turkey will get an additional argument in their activities with Parliaments of the states that work on the recognition of crimes committed in 1915. “These two elements will provoke negative response of Armenian society,” he stated.

“Obviously, earlier Turkish side laid at least three preconditions for the establishment of diplomatic relations with Armenia: Armenia to recognize the present border line between the countries, delete the process of Genocide recognition from the foreign-policy agenda and finally pass Karabakhi liberated territories to Azerbaijan. Lately, there was information Ankara is ready to establish diplomatic relations if at least one of the preconditions is met,” Mayilyan said.

He considers one of the positive aspects of the Protocols is no direct link of Armenian-Turkish reconciliation and Karabakh conflict settlement. “Probably Ankara comes to realize the current situation over Karabakh peace process cannot be an obstacle for comprehensive settlement of the present Armenian-Turkish problems,” Mayilyan pointed out and expressed hope that turnaround in this process would not be once again exposed from outside."
