Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a meeting with Speaker of the Turkish Parliament Ali Sahin, reports CNNturk. Along other issues, the two discussed the latest developments in the Armenian-Turkish relations. Premier Erdogan reminded Speaker Sahin that the protocols on establishing diplomatic relations cannot take effect without being ratified by Parliament.

Late Monday evening, the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) and the Armenian and Turkish foreign offices issued a press release, which particularly reads:

“The Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Armenia have agreed to start internal political consultations regarding the two protocols — the ‘Protocol on the establishment of diplomatic relations’ and the ‘Protocol on the development of bilateral relations’ — that have been initialed in the course of their efforts under Swiss mediation.
The political consultations will be completed within six weeks, following which the two Protocols will be signed and submitted to the respective parliaments for their ratification.”
