Armenia does not pursue a foreign policy. The Armenia-Turkey process, an alleged achievement of Armenia’s foreign policy, was in the world powers’ interests, NKR former Foreign Minister Arman Melikyan told a press conference on Tuesday. According to him, Armenia failed to adopt a policy in its national interests, while normalizing relations with Turkey.

“Everybody saw the normalization process through rose-colored spectacles at its initial stage and tried to convince the process will yield results. However, it took another course and badly damaged the country. I consider it an exclusive lack of diplomatic skills,” Melikyan said.

According to him, the Armenia-Turkey process cannot predetermine the Karabkh conflict resolution, as the two are in the world hegemonies’ interests.

“Armenia’s anti-Turkish stance is also beneficial for world powers, as their interests dictate this,” the diplomat noted.

The authorities should adopt a foreign policy in national interest of Armenia, Melikyan concluded.
