Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu will arrive in Georgia next week, Reuters reports referring to Turkish MFA.

Turkish media inform the purpose of Davutoglu’s visit is the case of Buket tanker’s Captain, sentenced to 24 years’ imprisonment by Georgian court.

“We consider Georgia violated international maritime law,” Turkish foreign ministry spokesman Burak Ozugergin stated.

Turkish authorities intend to bring diplomatic pressure on Georgia to quash a conviction against Turkish tanker captain.

The case of Buket tanker and Capt. Mehmet Ozturk (citizen of Turkey) was heard in Georgia on August 31, 2009. Ozturk was sentenced for 24 years for violating “customs law and regulations on arrival in the occupied territories”. The ship traveling from Turkey to Abkhazia with 2.000 t. petrol and 700 t. diesel fuel was transferred into ownership of Georgia.
