Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying to split NATO’s countries. This was stated by the candidate nominated by the US president-elect for the head of Pentagon James Mattis, reports BBC. As Mattis announced at the Senate hearings, the world is facing the biggest threat after the World War II, on behalf of Russia, China, and terrorist groups.

In response to senators' questions, Mattis said that he intends to contribute to the strengthening of NATO's unity, in particular by supporting Ukraine's territorial integrity and Baltic countries that feel threatened by Russia. According to him, it is important for the United States to strengthen its military power.
