Republicans are most likely to win the Nov. 2 mid-term elections in the United States, as the Americans, who placed great hopes on U.S. President Barack Oabama, have been disappointed, Alexander Rahr, Director of the Berthold Beitz Center for Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Central Asia, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Auswärtige Politik (German Council on Foreign Relations, DGAP), told NEWS.am.

He stressed that Obama’s policy is generally correct, being focused on social reforms and domestic problems. “It is difficult to explain to the people that social reforms cannot produce immediate results. Also, the American nation considers itself a great nation with great potential, and it does not like a president highlighting domestic problems,” Rahr said. He stressed that Washington will not change its foreign policy even if the Republicans win the elections – it is the White House, rather than the U.S. Congress, that is in charge of this policy. “But domestic reforms have encountered serious problems, as President Obama will have to seek compromises with the Republicans in order to get ome proposals or others approved,” the expert said.

The Armenian community in the U.S. is supporting 160 candidates participating in the Nov. 2 midterm elections and actively lobbying for pan-Armenian issues.
