Nothing extraordinary happened in Astrakhan on October 27, said Vasiliy Koltashov, head of the Economic research center at Institute for Global Research and Social Movements, commenting on the meeting of the Armenian, Azerbaijani and Russian leaders.

According to the expert the signed agreement on exchange of POWs and bodies of the killed has a specific meaning. Its shows that Russia’s role in the region remains prominent.

“Moscow is interested in having equally close relations with Armenia and Azerbaijan. It stands as a supporter, trying at least to mitigate old conflicts. Russian president’s statement that the sides will be able to agree on basic principles for conflict solution is another proof. However, it is still unclear whether the sides will really reach agreement at the OSCE summit in Astana scheduled for December 1-2,” he said, Vesti.az reported.

As NEWS.am reported earlier, yesterday Azerbaijani side returned Armenian shepherd Manvel Saribekyan’s body to Armenia. The Armenian side returned Azerbaijani citizen Eldar Tagiyev, who illegally crossed Armenian-Azerbaijani border 10 months ago.

The agreement on exchange of POWs and bodies of the killed was reached during the Oct. 27 meeting of the Armenian, Azerbaijani and Russian Presidents in Astrakhan.
