There is a pressing need for instituting the post of Military Ombudsman in Armenia, Hrair Karapetyan, Chairman of the Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs, told NEWS.am.

“The issue must first of all be discussed with the relevant agencies for technicalities to be specified,” he said. Karapetyan pointed out that RA Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan is unable to pay due attention to the situation in the armed forces, which necessitates the institution of the post of Military Ombudsman.

“The Ombudsman is overworked, so a special military agency must deal with army problems. Such an agency will be more concerned with soldiers’ rights,” Harutyunyan said. He reported that the issue has not yet been discussed with the Armenian Minister of Defense.
