Mehmet Ali Agca, the man responsible for an assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II in Rome in 1981, delivered an interview to Turkish state-run television, telling the details of the incident.

“The Vatican government decided on the Pope’s assassination,” he alleged. “They planned and organized it. The order to shoot the Pope was given by Vatican secretary, Cardinal Agostino Casaroli,” Agca said.

Agca was released on January 18, 2010. He is now writing a book which will be appear in the bookstores next year.
