Armenia should raise the issue on killing of Armenian shepherd Manvel Saribekyan in different international agencies, Larisa Alaverdyan, the Heritage Party MP, told the journalists today.

 “We should voice the matter in various international agencies, stating that Azerbaijan has violated Geneva Convention killing a prisoner in its territory,” she said. According to Alaverdyan, Armenia should succeed in criminal prosecution of Saribekyan’s murderers, as well as moral compensation.  “Besides, Azerbaijan, as a state, should bear responsibility for its crime,” the MP added. She also noted that the letter sent by Armenian MPs to OSCE, UN, EU and Council of Europe, requesting for adequate assessment of Azerbaijan’s barbaric actions remained unanswered. “I think we got no reply due to bureaucracy in the mentioned agencies, let alone the fact that the format of the letter, presented as a statement, was unusual for them,” said Alaverdyan.

The Heritage MP also stressed that according to the ICRC there are 10 Armenians, 5 of them members of one family, in Azerbaijani captivity. “There are missing people as well. Azerbaijani side claims that one of them was handed to a third country, whereas the ICRC is not aware of it. Azerbaijan also promised to return an Armenian soldier in exchange for ransom but the ICRC has not seen him as well. Another Armenian serviceman, being mentally ill, was released from 4- year captivity by tremendous efforts of the Armenian side,” MP concluded.
