House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will do everything she can this year to bring to a vote the legislation recognizing the Armenian Genocide at the hands of Ottoman Turks in 1915, “Glendale News-Press” reports.
As noted by the Armenian National Committee of America, Pelosi made this statement after the mid-term elections on November 2, when the position of her party - the Democrats – weakened and the Republicans are now the majority in the House.
However, the Armenian National Committee of America intends to work not only with Democrats but also with Republicans. The Armenian community has always tried to have friends on both sides of the fence, - said ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian, expressing hope that the majority leader, Eric Cantor, a Republican, and Kevin McCarthy will support the resolution.
“We are seeking truth for the sake of justice. We are seeking justice for the sake of security.” Said Hamparian.
Hamparian also said that apart from the question of recognition of the Genocide resolution, their organization is lobbying for a number of other issues such as trade relations between the U.S. and Armenia.
The organization also expresses its clear negative stance against the candidature of M. Bryza, as the ambassador to Azerbaijan, and hopes for Obama’s understanding of on this issue, said in the ANCA report, - NEWS.am.
