Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the Arab states to create a zone resembling Europe’s Schengen area.
Delivering a speech in the course of his visit to Lebanon Erdogan recalled that Turkey had signed agreements lifting visa regime with Syria, Lebanon, Libya and Jordan.
“The EU has Schengen. Why can’t we create something similar?” he wonders. The Prime Minister stressed that Turkey has ambitious goals in the region. “We want peace, prosperity and stability in the region,” he said, adding that Turkey is realizing policy of zero problems with its neighbors, RIA Novosti reported.
According to him, on the one hand Turkey is directed to the West and is negotiating with the EU, on the other it is a country that believes in possibility of fusion of Muslim identity and the European values.
