MP Laszlo Tokes stated the European Parliament cannot remain silent about the 95th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

Under the decision as of June 18, 1987, the European Parliament should commemorate 2.5 million of Genocide victims and condemn collective crime in the Ottoman Empire, as it did in the case of Holocaust.

The MP stressed that 22 states have recognized the Genocide as a historic fact. He expressed regret that relevant project by Morten Messerschmidt was not approved by majority of the European MPs.

He also addressed President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek with a request to initiate a joint Genocide recognition process by the EU member states, including refusal of Genocide denial as a condition while holding talks with Turkey.
