Armenia’s signing a comprehensive document, “Basic settlement principles” initiated by RF President, depends on the fact whether basic principles, namely territorial integrity and nations’ right to self-determination are included in the document, Chairman of RA NA Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs, MP from Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun (ARFD) Hrayr Karapetyan told NEWS.am.

“Everything depends on the fact whether the documents’ provisions are acceptable to the Armenian side.  If the basic principles are not indicated in the documents, Armenia cannot put its signature to the document,” Karapetyan underscored. However, according to the parliamentarian, the document does not disclose details of RF President’s conversations with his Armenian and Azerbaijani counterparts.

Speaking of expectations of the Astana Summit, the MP noted: “I expect the Azerbaijani side will finally realize Nagorno-Karabakh will never acquire soviet status and be a part of Azerbaijan.”

As NEWS.am reported previously, on November 30, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev wants a comprehensive document, “Basic settlement principles”, to be drafted for Nagorno-Karabakh, stated RF Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on November 30.

The Russian President’s aim is the drafting the first-ever joint comprehensive document “Basic settlement principles” that would lay the foundations for preparation of a peaceful agreement as a final legally binding document. The sides reached an agreement on most of the principles, but some serious problems remain unsettled.
