Turkish law-enforcers have arrested the person who had spread the rumor that Cem Garipoğlu, who murdered an 18-year-old girl, was going to give himself up to Armenian law-enforcers on September 25, reported Hurriyet daily.

Turkish policemen arrested Cemil Baran, intermediary between the father of 18-year-old Münevver Karabulut, who was killed on March 3, and the uncle of Cem Garipoğlu, who is charged with the murder. The law-enforcers asked Baran about the information, and he said he had heard about Cem Garipoğlu being in Armenia from an old man in a bus and told reporters about that.

NEWS.am reminds its readers that the Turkey-based Haberturk website put on Baran’s claim that Cem Garipoğlu was going to give himself up to Armenian law-enforcers.

The beheaded body of 18-year-old Münevver Karabulut was found in a dustbin in one of the districts in Istanbul this March. Her boyfriend was suspected of the murder. Münevver Karabulut’s boyfriend, Cem Garipoğlu, is 18-year-old son of a well-known Turkish businessman. After the murder, policemen searched Garipoğlu’s private house, where the traces of crime were obvious. After the murder, Cem Garipoğlu called his father home. Then he escaped the scene of the crime. Turkish mass media reported Cem Garipoğlu was in Russia.

Later, the two families were reported to have reached reconciliation. As a result, Baran claimed that Cem Garipoğlu was going to give himself up to Armenian law-enforcers on September 25.

Cem Garipoğlu’s family will reportedly pay €3,000,000 compensation to Münevver Karabulut’s family. The murderer’s family has been afraid that the killed girl’s relatives would avenge themselves on the young man. However, after the reconciliation, they handed their son to the police.
