Recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh by Armenia will not resolve the conflict, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan stated in RA National Assembly on December 8, presenting the draft amendments to the RA Law on International Agreements, which provides for legal agreements with unrecognized national entities.

Yerevan aims at international recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh and the negotiation process follows this course, Kocharyan stressed, commenting on Head of “Heritage” parliamentary faction Stepan Safaryan’s statement that Karabakh’s recognition by Armenia is the key to the conflict resolution.

Meanwhile, Deputy FM said this does not mean official recognition of Karabakh is removed from the agenda. According to him, the moment is improper for it. “Armenia’s being a guarantor of Karabakh’s security and Karabakh people’s rights cannot be called into question at all. As an unrecognized national entity, the country encounters a number of difficulties. Armenia also solves issues related to education and medical care of NKR citizens,” Kocharyan noted.

On December 9, “Heritage” party intends to put the bill on Karabakh’s recognition to vote in RA National Assembly.
