The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be settled in a peaceful way, within the OSCE Minsk Group, on the basis of the Madrid principles, l’Aquila points and Helsinki final act (peoples’ right to self-determination, territorial integrity and nonuse of force), says a statement approved by the Armenia-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Commission following its meeting in Brussels, Dec. 1-2.
The statement calls on all the conflicting parties to respect the aforementioned principles and remain committed to the peace process. Separating one of them from the others will cause damage to the peace process, says the statement. The document also underlines the importance of all the conflicting parties’ involvement in the peace process. The statement hails the declaration on Nagorno-Karabakh adopted by the OSCE Summit in Astana. The EU stresses regional cooperation may facilitate the peace process. The meeting welcomed the Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents’ humanitarian initiative to exchange POWs and relevant steps.
