The European Union (EU) hails Armenia’s efforts to implement reforms, says a statement adopted by the Armenia-EU Parliamentary Commission, which met in Brussels, Dec. 1-2.

The EU also welcomes intensification of Armenia’s cooperation with European agencies under various projects, as well as underlines the need for cooperation between the pro-government and opposition forces in reforming the country’s election law. The EU points out the need for consolidating the Ombudsman institution in Armenia and underlines the need for revealing the circumstances surrounding the death of ten people during the tragic events on March 1-2, 2008. The EU also stresses the necessity for concrete results in corruption control, separation of business from politics, equal tax commitments for all citizens, and transparency of state purchases. The EU underlines the need for completing a €100 million (a €35 million grant and a €65 million credit) assistance project and welcomes the Armenian Government’s efforts to ease the consequences of the economic crisis.
