Yerevan’s Council of the Alderman is not discussing who will replace Gagik Beglaryan after his resignation, head of Republican group at the alderman council Derenik Dumanyan told NEWS.am. According to press reports, the nominee list includes Derenik Dumanyan, Taron Margaryan and director of the Armenian branch of “ArmRusGazprom” Karen Karapetyan. “On December 13 an extraordinary meeting of the council will be held to specify the day for discussion of mayor nominees. Therefore, it is too early to speak of the possible nominees,” Dumanyan said.

He recalled that according to the law First Deputy Mayor Taron Margaryan replaces the mayor, while Council of the Alderman has to elect a new mayor within a month. Speaking of the possible nominees Dumanyan said, “Republican group at the Council of the Alderman includes 35 members, another 17 represent Prosperous Armenia Party and 13 – Armenian National Congress. The council will chose from 35 people, therefore each candidature may be discussed”. He also added that if he is offered the post he would think about it.
