“Since the party and its chairman have not discussed the issue, I do not consider it right to make any forecasts concerning candidates,” Eduard Sharmazanov, Press Secretary of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), told NEWS.am.

Instead of making forecasts, he is making comments on facts. The RPA Executive Body has not yet held a meeting. The meeting will decide on the candidate for the post of Yerevan mayor. As regards the three potential candidates, Sharmazanov said they “have been nominated by the media.”

On December 16, the RPA Executive Body is to hold a meeting. The RPA has overwhelming majority at the Yerevan City Council. The council is to hold a meeting on December 17. The mass media are discussing three potential candidates: Head of the ArmRusgasprom Company Karen Karapetyan, First Vice-Mayor Taron Margaryan and Head of the RPA faction at the City Council Derenik Dumanyan. High-ranking RPA officials stress Taron Margaryan is the best candidate.
