German Ambassador to Armenia Hans-Jochen Schmidt pointed out speeches of the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and French Prime Minister delivered at the OSCE summit in Astana. They reiterated that 3 fundamental principles should not be separated while resolving the Karabakh conflict and should be viewed in one context, Ambassador told the journalists today in Yerevan.

“I draw major importance to the speech delivered by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan in Astana, as he voiced necessity to simultaneously apply the following principles: nations’ right to self-determination, non-use of force and territorial integrity. I fully support Armenia’s position to equal 3 principles. I also consider right Armenia’s precise stance on the Karabakh issue. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev also ruled out use of force while resolving the conflict,” Ambassador Schmidt said, adding that German people and he personally, stress importance mainly of nations’ self-determination principle.

“Incidents in the line of contact prove that Karabakh conflict is not “frozen” but is “asleep”. The incidents also testify to the fact security is very sensitive and we should do our utmost not to bring to open confrontation,” he noted.

The Ambassador expressed hope that the OSCE Minsk Group will fulfill its mission and solve the Karabakh issue.
