On December 17, Council of the Alderman will hold elections of Yerevan Mayor.

On December 13, the council held a meeting and decided to hold mayor elections on December 17.

On December 16, RPA (Republican Party of Armenia) Council’s meeting decided on the RPA nominee for mayor’s post. He is Chairman of ArmRusgasprom Board Karen Karapetyan.

Referring to its reliable sources told, NEWS.am had earlier reported Karen Karapetyan is the most likely candidate and he will be elected Mayor of Yerevan.

Republican group at the Council of the Alderman has an overwhelming majority, including 35 members.

On December 8, Yerevan Mayor Gagik Beglaryan handed in resignation after a scandal over beating Aram Kandayan, an employee of the protocol department of the presidential staff.
