“Armenian-Turkish Protocols and the prefacing documents — Meindorf Declaration and Madrid Principles imply the overwhelming diplomatic defeat of Armenia”, RA Former Deputy Defense Minister and Social-Democratic Party member Vahan Shirkhanyan stated today, September 11, at the discussion of Armenian-Turkish agreements. According to him, initiating Armenian-Turkish Protocols, the West aims at establishing a control over the Caucasus. This means Armenia withdraws from one security system, being unclear of where it will appear next.

“What will Armenia gain in return of changing its security system?” Shirkhanyan wonders. “Armenians had always suffered changing their orientation. If as a result Russian troops withdrew from Armenia, NATO troops should leave Turkey. If Armenian troops withdrew from Karabakh, Turkish 40.000 Army should be pulled out of Cyprus. Whenever two countries establish mutual relations, the agreement should be made based on mirror principle. That is mutual lay down of conditions (that should be equivalent) pertinent to both parties”, Shirkhanyan concluded.
