President of the Nagorno Karabagh Republic Bako Sahakyan sent a congratulatory letter to US President Barack Obama in connection with the US Independence Day. The letter reads:

“Honorable Mr. President,

On behalf of the people and Government of the Nagorno Karabagh Republic, Artsakh, I congratulate you and the American people on occasion of the United States’ Independence Day.

Your nation underwent numerous ordeals on the way to independence. Exceptional endurance and patriotism enabled American people to overcome severe challenges and establish one of the most powerful democracies in the world.

The American fortitude of freedom urged many countries, including Artsakh to achieve their goals – national liberation and prosperity. Despite Azerbaijan attempts to deprive us of fundamental rights to live, we defended out right to be free and elect our governance independently. Artsakh people are grateful to American nation for the permanent humanitarian aid that assists the revival of our life and economy, shattered by devastating conflict. We also value continuous endeavors of your Administration on advancement of the lasting peace and stability in the South Caucasus, as well as arrival at the just and viable settlement of the Azerbaijan-Karabakh conflict.

As we celebrate the spirit of freedom on this Day with you, I am confident that our shared values of peace and prosperity will lead to mutually beneficial, expanded and enriched relations between our states.”
