The Jan.-May 2009 balance reported 10.5% decline in Armenian industrial production. The neighboring Azerbaijan is the only CIS state that registered 1.3% growth compared to the same period of 2008.

As per the Interstate Statistical Committee of the CIS (CISSTAT) press release of July 2, 2009, the largest downturn was registered in Ukraine (31.9%), Moldova (25.3%), and Kyrgyzstan (20.2%). Russia – ranked four with 15.4% decline in industrial production, whereas Tajikistan reported 13%, Kazakhstan – 4.6%, and Belarus – 3.4% accordingly.

On average, the industrial production decline in CIS states made 16%. At that, the report did not contain data on Georgia (in the process of secession from CIS), Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
