Georgian State Minister for the Reintegration Temur Yakobishvili called “mad’s talking” the information on Turkey’s possible recognition of Abkhazia independence. “It is a lie and raving, looks like someone has a poor imagination,” he said. Turkish Milliyet daily spread information that Turkey might recognize Abkhazia’s independence, that is esteemed by almost all Georgian experts and politicians alike Yakobashvili.

According to Mamuka Areshidze, Director of Caucasus Center for Strategic Studies, the Turkish delegation headed by Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister was in Abkhazia several days ago. Although Georgian expert holds no details and is uncertain of the visit purpose, he links it with the Milliyet-spread news.

Areshidze is concerned about coincidence of the information by Turkish daily and the visit term, Caucasus Press agency informs.

He deems the “release of the information was intended to pave the way for certain steps.” “It is difficult to presume how tangible it may be as it will definitely incite split in NATO. Although, it is quite possible that the issue has become topical,” Areshidze maintains. The plan of Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister’s visit to Abkhazia was voiced during Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu’s visit to Georgia. The latter assured Turkey backs Georgia’s territorial integrity and will confirm it during Deputy FM’s visit to Abkhazia.

Georgian experts rule out such developments and say the information spread by Milliyet is nothing but “provocation”. Georgian MFA has no information on Turkish MFA delegation visit to Abkhazia, however they knew of such plans.
