Real reasons for non-ratification of Armenian-Turkish protocols are linked neither to Turkey’s relations with fraternal Azerbaijan, nor Genocide, territorial integrity, nor the Karabakh peace process. The main reason is conflict within the Turkish society, expert said at a Yerevan conference dedicated to the Armenian Genocide.

Davit Hovhannisyan considers one of the reasons is aspiration of Turkey’s ruling party to use Armenia-Turkey reconciliation as a bargaining chip in dialogue with U.S., EU, Russia and even Azerbaijan. It is one of the reasons not to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

The expert stressed Genocide denial policy originated with an organization of a crime, the evidence thereof is all the documents and telegrams of the Turkish leadership containing orders were classified. “There are many records proving the Ottoman Empire’s leadership wanted to hide the crime from foreigners trying to shift responsibility on others. Turks shifted responsibility on Kurds, Russians and even Armenians,” he stressed.
