The Sardarapat movement will not take part either in early or in regular elections, the movement member, film-maker Tigran Khzmalyan told journalists April 4.

"Elections is thimblerig, there is no point in taking part in it. Determining the future of our country and children by thimblerig is at least a crime. The political forces unaware of it, or deliberately tempting people into a trap, are committing a sin," Khzmalyan said.

According to him, the Armenian people must get free and fair elections by means of power rather than change power by means of elections. "I am placing emphasis on this formula, as a media outlet which interviewed me misquoted me either on purpose or inadvertently," Khzmalyan said. He pointed out that elections are a means rather than an end in Armenia.

Khzmalyan also pointed out that despotic rulers (Armenia is, he said, under despotic rule) do not come to power by means of elections nor do they leave by means of elections.

"The political forces calling for participation in the voting in the parliamentary elections are either naпve or are involved in a crime to be committed. The Stalin formula has for a long time been in effect in Armenia: counting rather than voting is what matters," Khzmalyan said.
