Despite the Turkish authorities’ attempts to put Azerbaijan at ease, stating its interests will not be infringed, Ankara-Yerevan reconciliation progresses regardless, said Azerbaijani MP Zahid Oruj at the parliamentary sitting, September 30.

According to him, the region is on the threshold of major changes. In this connection, Oruj called Turkish MPs to address to Turkish leadership to sign a “roadmap” with Azerbaijan “specifying the scope of Azerbaijani interests” before concluding a treaty with Armenia.

Other MPs and Ziyafet Askerov, First Vice Speaker of Azerbaijani Milli Majlis were also concerned over Armenia-Turkey normalization. Askerov said that despite Turkey’s official promises “not to make a step infringing Azerbaijani interests, the released Protocols indicate that a certain work is fulfilled in this direction.”

“We would like to confide in veracity of these statements. We believe the documents pending signing will consider national interests of both Azerbaijan and Turkey,” Askerov underlined. Meanwhile, MP Aynur Guliyeva called the members of Parliament to hold a closed session, where Azerbaijani Foreign Minister could present issues on Nagorno-Karabakh peace process in more detail.
