October 2, 2009 a major car accident in Hunan Province, China killed at least 17 passengers and wounded 54 others, Chinese Xinhua agency reports. A bus turned over on a slope path killing nine people at the scene, eight others died in hospital.
According to the preliminary data, the accident was caused by bus overcrowding.
