We faced the necessity of historians’ sub-commission creation right after Armenia brought forward international recognition and condemnation of Genocide as a pillar of its foreign policy, stated RA Former Foreign Minister Alexander Arzumanyan.

“Thereby, Armenia declared that Genocide as a historical fact exists. It should be recognized and condemned, but not be a bargain. Undoubtedly, Armenian authorities had to assist Diaspora in the Genocide recognition by various countries, without stating that this issue is on our foreign policy agenda. Genocide was recognized not for nothing,” Arzumanyan underlined.

“As soon as Genocide issue was adopted as the basis of foreign policy, it immediately became negotiable and we were reaping its rewards 11 years after,” he added.

“Turkish Premier and President stated they would accept sub-commissions’ conclusion. That is the sub-commission is due to give the verdict whether there was Genocide, which is unacceptable for us,” Former Foreign Minister concluded.
