“The Armenian-Turkish relations follow the logic of international politics. Turkey is an interested party as it has a status of criminal in the region. That state is hostage to this factor, as superpowers often abuse it,” stated Gagik Harutyunyan, Head of the Noravank Foundation.

According to him, after signing the Armenian-Turkish protocols, Turkey may defuse the situation with respect to the Armenian-Turkish relations, as it is presently in a serious “identity crisis,” wishing to show the international community its ability to establish normal relations with its neighbors.

Nonetheless, Harutyunyan said, Armenia and Turkey had “a falling out” long ago, and a new entry regime for Turkish citizens in Azerbaijan caused tension. “Both Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh are being made used of in the Turkish-Azerbaijani relations. It is only with Turkey’s help that Azerbaijan can realize its aggressive plans concerning Azerbaijan,” he said. Harutyunyan pointed out that benefit of the Armenian-Turkish protocols is that they may weaken the Turkey-Azerbaijan relations.
