October 8, German writer Herta Muller 56, won the Nobel Prize for literature.

The Swedish academy emphasized her ability to depict “with the concentration of poetry and the frankness of prose… the landscape of the dispossessed,” the article published in Telegraph reads.

Muller is Romanian- born German novelist writing about harsh conditions of life in Romania under the dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. She made her debut in 1982 with a collection of short stories entitled Niederunge.
