United States President Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 2009 “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”.

Unlike other Nobel Prizes, the Nobel Peace Prize is not presented in Sweden but in Norway. The prize has been awarded since 1901. Former U.S. Vice President Albert Gore and former President of Finland and United Nations diplomat Martti Ahtisaari were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
