Armenia-Turkey reconciliation and the probable signing of the Protocols is a natural process and may be considered as a tectonic move that could not be prevented, Russian Political Analyst and Expert in Iranian Studies Karine Gevorgyan told NEWS.am October 10 calling the legalization of Armenia-Turkey relations the “necessity of the day”.

According to her, the processes will have no affect on the region except for that Turkey will become a transit country for Armenia bringing extra benefits to the latter. The expert assumes the final outcome of the process may suit all parties including Armenia.

The key positive factor for Armenia is the economic – as the country will be able to maintain freight transportation by relatively low taxes compared to the glaring high Georgian taxes. She deems that Trabzon ports will bring many dividends to Armenia.

As concerns the negative reaction of Armenian Diaspora on Armenia’s reconciliation with Turkey and the protest rallies (against signing of the Protocols) during RA President’s Pan-Armenian tour, Gevorgyan declared it all was quite predictable and demonstrates that representatives of Armenian community have not fully realized the whole gravity of the situation Armenia presently is. However, she pointed out that such peremptory positions will always exist both in Turkey and Armenia. “Nevertheless, there are people who understand that there is no way but to try to find agreement,” she maintains.

“The categorical approach leads to deadlock. When people do not like each other, and lack mutual trust and still manage to find any solution – this is much productive,” Gevordyan deems.

She says Armenia has safeguarded itself whatever the outcome being a member of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and with Russian frontier guards deployed in the country.

“Taking into account the global civilization crisis, America starts to expand reforming its offensive foreign policy. Obama’s statements prove just that,” stated Gevorgyan commenting on the views that Armenia-Turkey normalization was enhanced by the U.S.

Thus, Armenia is not in a badsituation and both political and economic dividends should be derived from it. In order to be able to do so it should get rid of “the victim complex and the Turkophobia” as it prevents the country from “making crucial political or state decisions,” concludes the expert.
