The coming signing of Armenia-Turkey Protocols is called “historical” in Turkey. The important aspect of the documents is that they lead to opening of Armenia-Turkey state border, CNN-Turk informs.

“Turkish FM Ahmet Davudoglu and his Armenian counterpart Edward Nalbandyan will sign the Protocols in Zurich, Switzerland,” the source reads.

Ibrahim Kalin, Chief Foreign Policy Advisor to the Turkish PM, said: “If the signing, the parliamentary ratification and the implementation of the Protocols provisions will be made as specified – it will bring benefits to Turkey, Armenia and the whole region.”

Ankara traditionally considers principal to normalize relations with Yerevan in close linking with Karabakh peace process, as “in the Caucasus it is not possible to solve one problem being isolated from another.”

“No peace will be reached if in normalization with Armenia, Azeri position is not considered. Simultaneous efforts should be made in Turkey-Armenia and Armenia-Azerbaijan reconciliation. And this is what Turkey was saying from the very beginning,” maintains Turkish Foreign Policy Advisor.

Meanwhile, local observers inform that the Protocols due to be signed in Zurich October 10 bear no provisions on Karabakh issue.

According to Sinan Oğan, Director of the Turkish Center for International Relations and Strategic Analysis (TÜRKSAM), signing and implementation of the Protocol provisions along with positive aspects bears potential risks for Turkey, particularly the accusations (from both Armenia and abroad) of “Armenian Genocide” of 1915. Although Yerevan may resign the charges (according to the Protocol conditions), Armenian Diaspora having international sway will stick to its opinion, CNN-Turk reads.
