The Armenian-Turkish Protocols signed in Zurich on October 10 will be submitted to the Turkish Parliament next week, CNN Turk reported, referring to Deputy prime Minister of Turkey Cemil Çiçek. He reported that no specific date has yet been fixed, and it is only the Turkish Parliament that is entitled to put the Protocols to the vote or not.

Cemil Çiçek said that signing the Protocols with Armenia is part of Turkey’s policy of establishing peace and stability in the Caucasus. As regards the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, he pointed out that Armenia must withdraw from the “occupied Azerbaijani territories.” Turkey hopes the steps to improve relations with Armenia will have a positive impact on the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, he said.

Addressing the Armenian Genocide, Çiçek stated that Turkey is ready “to stand face to face” with its history. So a special committee of historians will be set up under the Protocols. He stated Turkey’s readiness to prove the truth and lie about the 1915 events, leaving it for scholars to study the problem.

NEWS.am. reported earlier that Head of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) faction Galust Sahakyan told Armenian journalists that the Armenian Parliament will put the Armenian-Turkish Protocols on its agenda only after the Turkish Parliament has made a final decision. According to him, it is Turkey itself than must open the border with Armenia. “The Turkish Parliament should discuss and decide whether they will open the border or not. Afterwards the Armenian side should think of what to do next,” he said.
