On May 12, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev starts his official visit to Ankara. He will hold talks with Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Bilateral trade and economic relations, particularly the possibility of constructing the first nuclear power plant in Turkey, are among the focal points, RFE/RL reports.

According to Russian Presidential Aide Sergei Prikhodko, a Memorandum on cooperation in constructing and operating the nuclear power plant in Turkey will be signed.

According to him, there is an agreement on purchase of certain amount of energy at a guaranteed price with the Turkish Electricity Trading and Contracting Company (TETAS). Besides, Russian contractors pledge to finance the project.

During Medvedev’s visit, the Rosneft Oil Company and Gazprom are to sign commercial contracts. Specifically, the Russian side plans to reduce the gas price by 10%, Prikhodko said.
